Overall I think this last project was a success. There are a few thing I would have like to done to make it better such as make the piece longer and add more back ground pictures, but I ran out of time creating the sounds track , mixing it down and video taping the whole project. This is something I wanted to always do and I found a great class to showcase my work. Thanks for the opportunity to allow me to bring forth my ability to produce a great art piece .

For my performance art pice I will attempt to approach random people and ask them can I take their pictures. The purpose is to see if they will allow me to post their picture on a face book.  The Technology is the camera, and Facebook.  The performance is me asking people to take pictures , taking the picture, and also  the people's willingness to actually go through with having their picture taken . I like to do landscape photography so this give me a chance to work on interacting with people for portrait photography. Lets see what happens.

And so my surrealism project begins. I think I want to combine these object to form a unique strange juxtaposition between them. Im thinking my project should look somewhere in between the real world and dream. I am trying to reach my unconscious lets see how this works out.

MY FLIP BOOK

http://goo.gl/eO4Do

The flipbook assignment.

Over all I was pleased with my flipbook. I did the frame-by-frame animation on an Ipad and most people in the class seemed think that was the smart way of making a flipbook.  The flipbook was not easier to make, nor, was it less time consuming, however, I do believe it had a higher production value. Many people struggle with being able to see through the paper in order to line up their animation precisely.

Viewing other people flipbooks it was hard to tell which side was up or down or what was the subject matter on some flipbooks .  Drawing digital make for a clearer picture but it has its drawbacks.  With the Animator app from the Itunes app store it allows you to see the previous frame in order to line up your next frame, this of course has it advantages. Another problem drawing with something electronically is of course the consumption of power and the fact the battery dose run out, which happened right before I was going to email the assignment.
Another thing I did not like was I really could not get precise with my fat finger to make detail drawings, which to me, took away from the over all look.  I believe drawing on an Ipad still has a ways to come before it will feel like traditional pencil and paper.

Critique VS Criticized.
It was nice to give and get positive feed back. Personally I thought I was in trouble for drawing my flipbook on an Ipad but then again, this is an Art and Technology course right?  And what better way to express that then using technology to make art.
I produced music all the time an I think our worst critic are ourselves I think people are just really hard on each other and it was nice to see that we can have an engaging class environment that allows us to express our art and give constructive criticism to better ourselves and classmates.

TECHNOLOGY IN THEATER

The Titanic the musical

In the Titanic the musical there is great lighting and audio equipment. For example the performers are wearing lovelier Microphone. This technology allows for radio waves to be sent from a small diaphragm Mic to a receiver then into a mixer and output to speakers. I believe most talk show used this technology because it convenient. The lighting is composed of spot and flood lights the quality of light is pretty good, giving performers and nice soft light which look good on camera.

The Titanic (Musical )- The proposal / The night was live

Using medium wide camera angles however, during more dramatic points during of the scene the camera pushes in slowly. This would suggest they are using a camera with zoom capability. Most show today use zoom lenses because it allows the person to get in closer to the action without disturbing the performers.

Our Favorite Son

Starts with an establishing wide shot of the entire stage with its patriotic theme. What interesting is that this show is in English however, the subtitles look like they are in Japanese or maybe in Chinese. The technology behind broadcasting a different language in order for a different culture to enjoy or communicate with one another is a powerful tool that’s used not only for entertainment but for education purposes as well.

Broadways Lost Treasures- Grand Hotel

This musical has all the bells whistles of a traditional show, good lighting, great audio and fabulous staging.  However, I believe there is some newer technology in the lighting. The LED light makes up the entire background of a building. A lot people believe this technology is fairly new but it has been around since the 60’s. The Light emitting diodes are not just used for broadways show that can be seen on automobiles, aviation, traffic symbol, even I phones have LED lights.  I don’t know what goes into this light technology I just know when I see one its like light, in HD.

Broadway Lost Treasure – My One and Only.

This show has to things that jump out at me; One, fog smoke, and two tap dancing. I never really paid much attention to what fog or smoke ads to the production of theater. The Vaporized proprietary water machine is used in a lot of high end entertainment productions. I never really stop to think how science and technology goes into it. Another technology no one really thinks about is tap dance shoes or why the shoe makes the sound it does. The pitch and clarity of the shoe is unmistakable. Make you wonder what material is used to make that rhythmic tune.

Andy Williams the impossible Dream:

In this show there are two technological effects that are used in TV that many people over look. The first is a camera dissolve and the second is reverb. The dissolves are found in Non linear editing systems such as Apple’s Final cut pro or Adobe Premiere. The dissolve give a nice way for two images to be cut or transition together. It also adds a different way to present a story. The Audio effects such a reverb add a sense of space to a room or environment. Both are technologies that are used in this show can be  found in entertainment production.

Sunday in the park with George “MOVE ON”

In this Broadway show what set the overall tone in the play is the costume design. The technology used to make these clothing is remarkable. Textile companies can produce unlimited amounts of color and textures to fit any shoe performance. Garments are now much believable according to the era, which in turn lends a hand to a better performance.

Madame butterfly:

I have not seen a clay animation since Gumby and Pokey. However, Madame Buttery Fly is the most intense clay animation that I have every seen to date. I cannot believe how much emotion and symbolism that is packed into this short opera/ film peace.  The opera Music is another element that enhances this story.

I think  this story is powerful without music. If one was to look at this movie without the music, I believe it tells a complete story. If you listen to the music by it self not knowing any of the words, through the minds eye one may see something dramatic and anticipating unfolding. A man and women meet, have sex ,and then man leaves, typical right ,wrong .

There is so much deeper meaning involved In this story. For example the women is pregnant and waits for her lover to return. She has birthed a little girl and they are connected by an umbilical cord.  This seems surreal but I believe this is a symbolic bond that a mother shares with her child.

The umbilical cord represents the bond. When the man return only for the child and pull the cord apart this is when the mother stops living. The women animation walks right out the scene of the deserted island, on to a studio and starts breaking her self apart. This moment just confirms that she is just done with life and has lost everything that is important to her.

THE BIRTH AND LIFE OF OPERA

I knew Italy was known for a lot of great and high quality products like Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s Prada and even Pizza, well maybe not pizza. however, the video we watched in class shows the Italian people were the first to come up with this art form of entertainment that they call Opera.  So not only do they make great cars and clothes they produce some of the world finest music. In Opera, the whole story is sung. Even though you don’t know what the hell they’re saying you still know its intense and captivating. As a society we love to tell stories and I think it just wonderful that the Italian manifested a dramatic way to tell their stories, then they combined it with some of the most breath taking sceneries. Make me want to sing my next story at a high pitch. Just kidding but  I definitely considering catching a show the next time I am in New York.

Art has always been a subjective in nature and while there are many forms of it, it’s hard to really define what art really is. I think art is anything that has been created for purposes of being enjoyed. We saw in class people going to the great extremes in order display beautiful art works. For example, the fire works show that was set off on top Burj Khalifa building in Dubai was nothing less that magnificent. Blowing up 50 million dollar for the purely entertainment and visual aesthetics is something most would consider over the top.
Another extreme form of art is a having the title of a castrato. A young boy would literally sacrifice he sexual maturity by castration in order to have what was considered then a pure singing voice.

My name is Chris Navarro. I am Communications major with a minor in flim. I love to shoot video create photographs and make hip hop music.

First class meeting:

The first class gave me an understanding of what is to come in this semester. I like how students are able to participate in our class environment by being able to arrange the classroom setting and also, in discourse. I also like how we given the opportunity to think about how some of these great art works are created not just by looking but with our other sesnes as well.  One art piece that stuck out to me was the clown head. While looking at it straight on through a lens, it forms a clown face however; looking at it from the side angle gives a whole new perspective on how it may have been created. What tools where used, how long did it take to make, was it done by one person, what inspired this person to make this sculpture? These are is just some of the question that comes to mind while checking this clown out. I look forward to finding out the answers to these question and more during this semester.
